Organised by Chris Boyce and Rail Academy Group, the event brought together experts who shared perspectives and highlighted practices from their respective countries and fields.
🔹 Workforce challenge
A key concern raised was the shortage of future railway staff. With railway careers becoming less attractive, the industry faces a serious long-term challenge.
🔹 Rulebook harmonisation
Participants exchanged views on harmonisation. The Eurostar rulebook was seen as a good example, but achieving unified rules across Europe remains an ambitious goal. A potential technological solution was discussed: an AI-driven system capable of generating tailored rulebooks based on driver qualifications.
🔹 Funding opportunities
Attendees agreed it would be logical for the EU to finance interoperability initiatives between Member States and the UK. However, the best-suited funding programme is still to be identified. Engaging with lobbyists and EU contacts was proposed as a strategic step forward.
🔹 New platform idea
The concept of a platform where railway undertakings could advertise specific shifts was well received, though concerns about union reactions and public perception remain.
